Society Meeting To Present Eight Months of Progress
On
Saturday October 23, 2004
the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society will be holding an
open meeting for society members and the public in the Lecture Theatre at the
Merseyside
Maritime
Museum
, Al
bert
Dock,
Liverpool
, at
14:00
.
This
will be the society’s first opportunity to present information on the
progress made towards securing the future of the unique, historic;
Birkenhead
built steam tug-tender “Daniel Adamson” a well known
local vessel which spent much of its working life on the
Manchester
Ship Canal
.
Over
the past eight months the “Daniel Adamson” has been saved from the scrap
yard and moved to a secure
bert
h in
Liverpool
for restoration. Dry-docking
has been undertaken to facilitate the cleaning, surveying and painting of her
hull along with the servicing of her sea valves.
Following
the dry docking, throughout the
summer and early autumn a dedicated and growing band of volunteers have been
working on the “Daniel Adamson” undertaking a wide range of jobs. The most
important of which, has been to secure the vessel from the weather and ensure
she is well protected in preparation for the winter.
To
this end the society is particularly grateful for the recent assistance of JPS
Scaffolding of
Liverpool
, who has erected an awning over the after deck which has
suffered significant rainwater penetration. This awning will serve to protect
the deck from rainwater as well as offering shelter for volunteers. JPS
Scaffolding is one of a number of local companies and organisations who have
offered valuable assisted the society.
The
recent granting of charitable status to the Daniel Adamson Preservation
Society was a further landmark for the society. This will assist in the
opening up avenues for further funding. Our charity number is: 1104681.
