“Daniel Adamson” Arrives in Liverpool

The historic 1903 Manchester Ship Canal tug-tender “Daniel Adamson” was moved from Ellesmere Port to Liverpool in a two stage operation which commenced on Thursday April 8th and completed on Saturday April 10th.

On Thursday “Daniel Adamson” was removed from the dock at the Boat Museum , Ellesmere Port and towed by ship canal tug “M.S.C. Viceroy” to Eastham Locks.

The move to Liverpool was completed on Saturday afternoon when “Ashgarth” of Svitzer Marine towed “Daniel Adamson” out of Eastham Locks at 17:55 down the Mersey to Liverpool . This was believed to be the first time “Daniel Adamson” had sailed on the Mersey in 60 years.

Arrival in Liverpool at Langton Lock was around 18:45 . From Langton Lock, “Daniel Adamson” was moved through the dock system by “Ashgarth” and “Pollgarth” to the entrance of Clarence Graving Dock, where she was made fast shortly after 20:00.

The next stage of the project will see the “Daniel Adamson” entering dry dock for a hull survey.

The departure of “Daniel Adamson” from Eastham Locks also marked the official handover of the vessel by the Manchester Ship Canal Company, part of the Peel Holdings Group, to the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society.

DAPS Chairman Tony Hirst and DAPS Director Dan Cross formally accepted the vessel from Manchester Ship Canal Company representative Captain Don Morgan at Eastham Locks.
