Daniel Adamson Preservation Society

The Daniel Adamson Preservation Society was formed on 21st February 2004 with the aim of saving the historic vessel, “Daniel Adamson”.

The “Daniel Adamson” is a twin screw steam tug-tender constructed for the Shropshire Union Canal and Railway Company by the Tranmere Bay Development Company of Birkenhead in 1903.

Originally named “Ralph Brocklebank” the vessel was purchased by the Manchester Ship Canal Company in 1921 where she served as the company’s hospitality tender carrying guests and dignitaries on official tours of the canal until late 1984 when she was retired from service.

Since this time the vessel has formed part of the static displays at the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum and sadly has fallen into a poor state of repair.

The aim of the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society is to restore the vessel to her former glory and see her active again within the Manchester and Merseyside areas.

To achieve this, we are seeking support from local companies, businesses and individuals.

Though the project to save the “Daniel Adamson” is only in its early stages we have already been successful in securing the support of several companies and organisations including Svitzer Marine, The Manchester Ship Canal Company, North Western Ship Builders and Repairers, Liverpool Pilots and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.

The Daniel Adamson Preservation Society wishes to invite applications for membership from local people and organisations wishing to support the project.

Details of the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society can be obtained from Patrick Crecraft – 8, Newlands, Naseby, Northampton NN6 6DE Tel: 01604 740144
