Rock Around The Dock

Photographs and Captions © John H. Luxton - Text Neil Marsden

Scenes on Saturday November 19. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the ballast removal in progress as everyone was rather busy. However, the resultant mound of mainly limestone ballast can be seen. The final photo reveals the effect of removing the ballast, the Danny is now riding around 5 inches higher. [J.L.] Photo Left by John Broomby shows the "Big Feed" in progress!

Firstly 27 member/volunteers attended (I don't think I missed anybody out) which as you might expect far exceeds anything previously.  Aside from shifting all the ballast in record time and cleaning out the bays as well it is fair to say that everyone did a magnificent job.  A total of 136 hours of work was added to our running total which now stands at 9,391 hours.

Special thanks to Jean Owen and 'wee Doogie' for their valiant efforts at the 'Baby Belling' thanks too to John Deakin and Dan Cross for taking the trouble to organise the makings for a most welcome hot snack and to Eddie Doig for the generous donation of the DAPS pens, I hop those present all bought at least one!

Many thanks as always to our 'regulars' and to those others who answered the call and generously gave their time, 'The Tango Twins' (Orange boiler-suits!! Neil & Sylvia Farthing travelling from Anglesey) Alan Hughes (Skipton) John Luxton, Frank Brown, Gemma Nulty, Ben Barnes and not least John Griffiths!! (That was him in the 'White Hunter'  Hat / Arran 'Gansey' ensemble!!)

I think all will agree a fantastic result well done everyone!!
