George
Pennington has been busy restoring some of the Daniel Adamson's Brassware.
The port hole is the one from the forward end
of the galley. I initially scraped and chipped the layers of paint off it
and tried to clean it up with Emery paper but it only brought a small
amount of tarnish off. A brass brush in my power drill was the best option
as you can see.
The lock has been taken apart, clean and
reassembled. I have made a new key for it from a blank that I had spare.
the latch though requires a spring to make it function. This was on a piece
of the old door from an unmentionable area.
The plate was found on a piece of the door
frame. Again it was heavily
tarnished but has come up a treat.
