The
DANIEL ADAMSON entered North Western Ship Repairers Clarence #1 Dry Dock on
Thursday May 20, 2004 for an NDT (none destructive test) survey,
grit blasting and painting of the hull.
Photographs above and left show the DANIEL
ADAMSON on the blocks immediately after the water had been pumped out of the
dry dock on Thursday May 20, 2005. (John H. Luxton)
Within nine days the hull had
been grit blasted, NDT tested and primed. Work was also underway on repairing
sea valves and making good several minor perforations. The test revealed the
hull to be in sound condition despite the fact that the ship had not been dry
docked for around 20 years.
By
early June hull painting and repairs had been completed and sea valves
replaced. What a difference a few weeks makes! - (Photographs - Dan Cross)
The dry dock was flooded up on Sunday June 06,
2004. (below - photos; John H. Luxton & Ian Collard.) and moved out of the dry
dock.
The
Daniel Adamson Preservation Society is very grateful to the assistance of
various companies and individuals who assisted the project during the crucial
dry docking period. Until the NDT had been completed it was not know if the
preservation of the ship was a viable project.
